Our School Model
There are 5 million English Language Learner (ELL) students in the American education system, yet only around 15% will reach language proficiency every year, leaving so many feeling out of place. At Fugees Family, our vision is to transform schools into welcoming communities where every newcomer is embraced like family. We’re committed to creating an inclusive educational environment that celebrates diversity and supports every student’s journey towards language proficiency and beyond.
The mission of GFACS is to level the playing field for refugee and immigrant students and their families by empowering them to become independent thinkers, high-achieving scholars, and productive citizens.
Academics
Our teachers focus on achieving high academic growth, addressing foundational learning gaps associated with multilingual learners, and meeting our students where they are to prepare them for multiple post-secondary opportunities.

Soccer
Soccer is the universal language. In addition to being a source of fun and exercise, it's a source of community which supports social-emotional development and the relational trust required to take the academic risk necessary for rapid growth.

Movement
Brain research has proven movement has a positive impact on learning as well as social emotional health. Movement improves memory and concentration as well as improvements in mood and stress management. Students at GFACS begin the day with yoga or martial arts and end the day with soccer.
The Arts
Participation in music and visual arts is key to social emotional well in addition to the development of self confidence, identity, and self control. The arts connect students with cultures neear and far.
College and Career Readiness
At an early age, students begin to explore college and career options to help guide their post secondary choices whether that be through a traditional college, learning a trade, or entering the work force. GFACS provides dual credit opportunities and a full time College Career counselor who is experienced and available to all students daily.
Cultural Celebrations
At GFACS, the full school community celebrates holidays that reflect the backgrounds of the students as well as American holidays. Celebrations are authentic opportunities to teach students about one another’s traditions and about American culture.
Comprehensive Family Supports
Family engagement is everything at Fugees. Our goal is to make families—both students and their caregivers—understand that their well-being is the most important thing to us. Everything we do is meant to build trust with families and dismantle any barriers or preconceived notions they have about schooling.
After-School and Summer Programming
At Fugees, we value year round and extended school opportunities for academic support as well as social emotional well being. We provide programming that is fun, safe, and creates a sense of belonging for our students. As well, it provides additional opportunities for English acquisition success through movement and skill development both on and off the field.
